Jim Roy
Special Guest

Jim Roy, PGA Champions Tour Pro, has earned his full exemption seat on the Champions Tour, not by being a PGA Tour veteran, but by qualifying for the Champions Tour as an amateur – a feat only a dozen or so men have ever achieved. Jim came to the 2009 Champions Tour Q School to compete for 5 spots and earned one of them with amateur status. At age 50, Jim now competes on the 2010 Champions Tour.

In 1981, Jim was the New York State Amateur Champion. He also won the NYS Mid Am 4 times. He then turned Pro in 1983, qualifying for the PGA Tour and the U.S. Open at Oakmont. He also competed in the U.S. Open at Oak Hill in 1989. In 1996, Jim regained his amateur status after playing as a Pro for over 10 years; during this time he won numerous Amateur Champion titles. He also played in 5 U.S. Am’s and 2 U.S. Opens. In 2007 Jim was inducted into the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame and the Syracuse District Golf Association Hall of Fame.

When asked, Jim will downplay the fact that he is a prostate cancer survivor, noting that the disease was found in its early stages, and undergoing surgery six years ago. An all-around nice guy, Jim and his wife, Cheryl, have three children. Jim is thankful for the second chances he’s had and is delighted to join Jay in raising awareness about prostate cancer and to help raise funds for ongoing research that will lead to more effective treatments for patients afflicted by this disease.

Neil Hartman
Neil Hartman
Guest Auctioneer

Sports fans throughout the Greater Philadelphia region have known Neil Hartman well for many years. With a career spanning nearly three decades, the veteran sportscaster was one of the original anchors hired by Comcast SportsNet in 1997. A multiple Emmy Award nominee, he is a two-time regional winner for best sports host. Neil has also been recognized as a Philadelphia Magazine "Best of Philly" sports host as well as "Sportscaster of the Year" by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

Prior to Comcast SportsNet, he was a TV sportscaster in Springfield, Massachusetts and Toledo, Ohio. Making the major media market jump to Philadelphia, he worked as a sports anchor and host at WPHL-TV and KYW-TV as well as at WIP and WPHT radio. A special moment for Hartman was working in production for ABC Sports covering the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. He'll never forget sitting next to Al Michaels when the famous quote "Do you believe in miracles?" was born as Michaels commented on the U.S. hockey team's historic, against-the-odds gold medal win.

Neil graduated from Ithaca College in 1982 with a major in television-radio and a speech minor. When not in front of the camera, Neil donates his time and emcee skills to many non-profit organizations including the Coaches vs. Cancer program of the American Cancer Society. He enjoys running, golf and time with his wife and two children.

Honorary Chairmen

Ed Abrams

Ed Abrams has been keeping the Philadelphia area informed for the past 30 years as an anchor and reporter for KYW Newsradio. After a 10-year stint as host and producer of Golfshots on Comcast SportsNet, Ed has begun a new venture, serving up video tours of local golf courses and a daily blog at KYW1060.com/golf. He also has launched a new website where he interviews experts to answer golfers' questions about the swing, equipment, and anything else related to golf. You can check out his golF.A.Q. at aQuick9.com.

Ed, a resident of Swarthmore, is an avid golfer who plays to a single-digit handicap. A prostate cancer survivor, he is thrilled to be involved with Jay's event to raise awareness and funding for such a worthy cause.

Mark Lye

A native of Northern California, Mark Lye began playing golf at the age of nine. Since that time, he has become a familiar face to many spanning an 18-year career on the PGA TOUR that began in 1977. Currently, Mark is an Analyst on The Golf Channel (TGC) and a player on the PGA’s Champions TOUR. A three-time All-American at San Jose State University, Mark joined the professional golf ranks in 1975 playing in Europe and Australia. After winning the 1976 Rolex Trophy tournament in Switzerland, the Australian PGA Tour’s coveted Champion of Champions event in 1976 and the 1976/77 Australian Tour Order of Merit, Lye joined the PGA TOUR in 1977 where he was a consistent money winner for 18 years. His PGA TOUR career earnings totaled nearly $2 million with his best year in 1983 when he captured the Bank of Boston Classic and finished 28th on the money list.

When Mark is not on the golf course, he can be found on The Golf Channel as an Analyst for the network’s live tournament coverage of the Champions TOUR and PGA TOUR.

Lye’s knowledge of the game on and off the course, as well as his versatility as a player, an instructor and a speaker have brought him great success making him a popular figure among his peers, business clients and golf fans. And, adding to his credits is a cameo appearance in the 1996 film, “Happy Gilmore.” Mark and his wife now reside in Florida.

Vince Papale
